New year's basic mountaineering course! Available Space

Starting on January 2, 2009, and finishing on January 9, we'll be teaching a basic mountaineering course at the Laguna Grande de la Sierra in El Cocuy. The course is intended to teach all basic skills needed to have independence in the mountains. After the course students should be able to safely go by themselves to mountains within their level of ability. No previous experience is required, although the learning process will be hastened if students are already familiarized with equipment and mountaineering environment.The student:instructor ratio is 3:1.

The Laguna Grande de la Sierra, where we'll teach the course, is an impressive cirque of 5 5000+ peaks that surround a lake located at 4500 mts. This spot is great for the course because it gives us the possibility of getting to five different glaciers/peaks with a relatively easy and short approach.

The price of the course is USD 600. This includes instruction and all technical climbing gear (Ice axes, crampons, harnesses, ropes, rock & ice gear... ). Depending student's needs, for an additional fee we could provide all (or some) logistical services, such as food/cooking in the mountain, arrieros and mules/horses, transportation from bogota to the mountain, airport pickup, tents, sleeping bags and mats etc. Ask us for a customized price.
